About Us

On The Move is a community of movers and shakers - ordinary people that are determined to make a difference, no-matter the odds.

We're On The Move

On the 6th May 2019 Rightmove will be sponsoring the MK Marathon and MK Half Marathon. Milton Keynes is the home of Rightmove, so we’re really excited about taking part in and helping one of the key sporting events in our local community.

We’re using this opportunity to raise money for two incredible causes that are close to our hearts:

Meningitis Now and the Winter Night Shelter.

We’ve set a grand target of £50,000 and right now our dedicated team of 100 runners are busy pounding the pavements and fundraising to prepare for the marathon and raise as much money as they can.

We’re hoping that by coming together as a collective, we can make a genuine difference to many people’s lives, and build a movement for social good that lasts well into the future.

A Team That Counts

Over 100 (and counting) incredibly caring, socially minded, and deeply motivated people are taking action – fundraising for two totally seperate causes but united under a single, heartwarming, shared banner: On The Move.

All kinds of people have joined our movement, from friendly businesses to college students.

Our team comes from all backgrounds, fitness levels and levels of experience. Some are local to Milton Keynes, others are as far away as Scotland and Cornwall – everyone is invited.

Everyone is taking action for their own personal reasons, but we’re all taking the time to train and fundraise collectively for two causes for which our efforts will make a significant, valued and lasting difference

Meet our Movers

Over 100 of our team will be running, spread across the half or full marathon distance – our brave “movers”.

At the same time they’ll be fundraising, with each Mover raising £500 for their chosen charity.

But running isn’t for everyone. Last year we had people organising fundraising events, from bake sales to bag packing, so they could do their bit for the charities as well.

Supported by friends, family, our local community, and with special mention to Up and Running Milton Keynes, we couldn’t ever have imagined how this journey could have begun without the love shown from those around us.

What We're Shaking For

We’ve set ourselves an ambitious target of raising £50,000, to be split between our two causes.

When one of our much-loved colleagues at Rightmove tragically lost his son to meningitis back in December 2016, the team at Meningitis Now were a great support to him and his family. In memory of Joshua, and on behalf of our colleague Phil and his family, we’re proud to raise money for Meningitis Now.

The team at the Winter Night Shelter have been incredible at helping those who would otherwise be rough sleeping during the extreme winter months in Milton Keynes. As Milton Keynes is the home of Rightmove we wanted to help fundraise for a charity local to us, in particular their “Unity Park Station” project which aims to prevent homelessness by providing support to those in need all year round.

How to Donate

No amount of wishful thinking is going to have an impact on Meningitis, or Homelessness. These are two causes that are persistently tough to solve.

And there’s only one person that can make a real, significant and lasting difference.
(This means you)

Can you help us to smash our fundraising target?

In order to make a real difference, we need to raise funds for our incredibly valuable charitable causes.

If you can afford to make a donation – no matter how small, it will make a genuine difference in the lives of those people that are in desperate need of our help.

It’s easy to donate and payments are safe and secure.

Just pick a cause that resonates with you, and follow the instructions to make your donation via JustGiving.

Frequently Asked Questions

Unsure how to get started or just need a helping hand? We’ve answered all of our most frequently asked questions below.

How do I become an On The Move fundraiser?

We’re a family of like-minded individuals that are dedicated to making a difference. We’re growing our team for next year’s 2019 Milton Keynes Marathon – our second year of taking part, and we’ll be welcoming more movers and shakers into our fold very soon.

If you’d like to express your interest in taking part, in whatever way that may be, just complete the short form on our Show Your Support page and you’ll be entered into our list for consideration.

We have a selection process to ensure our team is kept to a strong core, so only the most motivated entrants will be invited to take part.

Unfortunately, due to the current volume of applicants, although we do try to respond to everyone, it may take time to get to you.

Media Enquiries - I'd like to write about On The Move in my newspaper / magazine / blog. Who do I speak to?

Media coverage helps us spread the word about the great work the On The Move team is doing – but the real stars are those that work at the fantastic causes we support, who are making a difference to people’s lives every day.

If you’d like to talk to us about our movement, speak to one of our fundraisers, or if you’d like to be put in touch directly with one of our causes, then please get in touch.

You can contact us directly using the form or email address provided on our Contact page. We try to respond to all enquiries as quickly as possible, but if your request is time-sensitive then please mark the message as URGENT and we’ll treat it as a high priority.

We can also provide a basic press kit including our logo (in vector and raster formats), photography, and a press release if you need it.

How do I know if a fundraiser is part of On The Move?

Every member of our team uses JustGiving as their fundraising platform. And we use JustGiving’s “Teams” feature to group and identify us.

You can see a full list of our currently active participans by visiting our two JustGiving team pages (one for each cause) here:

JustGiving Team Page: On The Move
Winter Night Shelter Milton Keynes

JustGiving Team Page: On The Move
Meningitis Now

On any of our team’s JustGiving fundraising pages, you can scroll toward the bottom of the page to check for the ‘Fundraising Team’ section. This will clearly identify them as part of one of the two JustGiving teams indicated above.

Does On The Move only take action on a local level, in Milton Keynes?

Our organisers / co-ordinators and members of our founding team are staff at Rightmove, who’s offices are based in London and Milton Keynes. Our 2018 and 2019 fundraising campaigns are centred around the Milton Keynes Marathon, which has provided a fantastic vehicle to reach our immediate goals.

However, our team members are now wider than just at Rightmove, and are based as far afield as Australia. We’re supporting a local, Milton Keynes based charity – the Winter Night Shelter. But we’re also supporting a national charity – Meningitis Now. We’ve received some incredibly generous donations from people all over the world.

How much of my donation actually goes to charity?

We do not receive payment in any way for our efforts as fundraisers, contributors or organisers of On The Move.

We do not take a percentage, cut, fee or any money at all, from any part of our donations.

Some of the work we do does cost money. For example, we print leaflets and posters, and we hire people to build our website. But none of this is paid using money from our donations.

Our fundraising, organisation, marketing and promotional work is provided on a voluntary basis by the On The Move team (they work extra hours on top of their full time jobs at Rightmove). Anything that requires payment is paid for directly by Rightmove as an additional donation toward achieving our fundraising goals.

The Milton Keynes marathon is sponsored by Rightmove, providing great awareness and a platform to make a real difference for our supported causes.

All of our fundraising efforts are processed through JustGiving. When you make a donation using the JustGiving platform, your payment is held briefly by JustGiving for clearing and then deposited directly with the charity. At no point does your payment pass through us.

I've changed my mind about a donation I've already made. Can I get a refund?

Your donation will have been made through one of our fundraisers’ JustGiving pages. Because we don’t take payments directly ourselves, we aren’t able to process refunds directly either.

All of our donations are processed through the JustGiving platform, but because JustGiving send your donation directly to the charity indicated on the fundraising page you donated to, the responsibility to process refunds lies with the charity – rather than with On The Move, or with JustGiving.

So, if you’ve changed your mind about a donation, or if you’ve just made a mistake and would like a refund, then it’s important that you contact the charity directly.

To do that, visit the fundraising page you donated on to check which charity they supported (it’ll be either Meningitis Now or Winter Night Shelter Milton Keynes).

Then, visit the appropriate charity’s website, and follow their Contact page to send a message requesting your refund, or make a call to enquire about their refunds process.

I donated to an On The Move fundraising page, but the fundraiser didn't run the marathon - what happens now?

Sometimes due to unforseen circumstances in life (like injury and illness), a fundraiser that intended to run the marathon or half marathon is unable to take part, despite having raised donations for their chosen cause.

All of fundraisers are extremely dedicated, and we know that they would be devastated to find that they couldn’t take part. But unfortunately, you can’t control or predict these things – and they can happen.

Because any fundraising would have been done completely in good faith, we would hope that our donors would be willing to leave their donations with the charity they’ve supported.

However, if you feel that your donation is no longer appropriate, please read the answer to our refunds question above (I’ve changed my mind about a donation I’ve already made. Can I get a refund?).

Can I fundraise for On The Move without running the MK Marathon?

The simple answer to this is – yes!

We appreciate that running a half, or full marathon, isn’t everyone’s idea of fun. But you still might want to show your support and raise much needed funds for the Winter Night Shelter MK or Meningitis Now.

In previous years we’ve had fundraising from people that have arranged bake sales, DJ’d at club nights, and ice-skated their way round a rink for 20 miles!

Whatever your idea, if you want to hold a fundraising event to raise money for either of these great causes, we’d love to have you on board.

To get involved all you need to do is set up a JustGiving page for your event and link it to our team pages. There are instructions explaining how to do that here.

Then simply hold your event, safe in the knowledge that your hard-earned donations are going to the charity you choose!

If you’d like to read more about the inspiring events last years fundraisers held, you can here.

Best of luck – we hope your event is a huge success!
