Sample content for your
JustGiving fundraising page

Crafting a clear fundraising message can really help drive donations.

Struggling to put together some great writing for your fundraising page on JustGiving? Don’t panic. We’ve provided some top notch sample content that’ll get things rolling.

Getting started

Your page on JustGiving is the centre-point of all your fundraising efforts as part of On The Move. Anyone that wants to donate money for your run is going to do it through your fundraising page – so it’ll be doing a very important job. Because of that, it’s worth investing a little time to get right.

If you haven’t created your JustGiving page yet, we’ve published a really simple guide to help you get it set up and properly connected to the cause you’ve chosen to support.

This article provides some sample content for your JustGiving fundraising page. You can use it simply for inspiration, or you can cut and paste it in order to complete each section on the page – customising and personalising it as you go.

We’ve provided sample content for both Meningitis Now and Winter Night Shelter MK – so whichever you’ve decided to support, this will give you a great starting point.

Writing isn’t easy for everyone

A lucky few will be able to put together a stack of writing to complete every section of their JustGiving page. If that’s you – great! But you might want to read this guide anyway, just to make sure you’ve covered some of the aspects that we touch upon.

But for most of us, getting anything more than the basics right on a fundraising page is tough. If you’re struggling, don’t worry – you’re not alone.

If you do decide to cut and paste any of this sample content for use on your page, we strongly advise that you do at least make some minor adjustments to ensure it feels like it’s talking about you.

Your fundraising page is personal, and people that know you (those that are also the most likely to donate) probably know how you generally speak – so you should consider rephrasing anything that doesn’t feel like it’s coming from you.

Do your best to make it your own by removing anything that doesn’t apply, adding anything you feel isn’t covered, and by injecting a little of your own personality into the mix.

Sample: About Meningitis Now

About Meningitis Now

Meningitis Now is the only charity in the UK that’s dedicated to saving lives and rebuilding futures for those that have been affected by Meningitis. For over 30 years, they’ve been an essential lifeline for so many - by funding research, raising awareness and providing support for anyone whose life has been touched by this life-threatening disease.

When one of our much-loved colleagues at Rightmove tragically lost his 8-month son to Meningitis in December 2016, the team at Meningitis Now were a great support to him and his family.

In memory of Joshua, and of behalf of our colleague and his family, we’re proud to support Mengitis Now. By donating, you’ll help families like Joshua’s, that are in need of support today.

What is this?

If you’ve chosen to support Meningitis Now, then your JustGiving fundraising page will need to provide some basic information about them.

It’s likely that your friends and family will visit your fundraising page, and many of them will have no idea about the great work that Meningitis Now do, or even what Meningitis is or how it can affect people’s lives.

So it’s important to provide at least a basic overview to inform people that simply aren’t aware.

You won’t need to provide much detail, because by selecting Meningitis Now as a charity in the signup process, you linked your page to theirs. This means that anyone visiting your page can simply click on the Meningitis Now logo to delve deeper and find out more about them.

How to use it

It’s up to you to decide where you think it’s best to fit this description in. But if you’re stuck, try starting your page with a short introduction, describing why you’ve decided to fundraise – and follow it up with this snippet.

It’ll provide a good starting point toward building an effective page, and it’ll inform potential donors of the immediate facts that they need to know to decide if they want to support you by donating.

You’re welcome to use it as-is, by copy and pasting the snippet onto your page. However, you might want to make it your own by rephrasing a few sentences and adding your own flavour to make it feel more personal to your campaign.

An important note:

The later section of this snippet is dedicated to Joshua. It’s up to you if you feel it’s appropriate to include, but if you do decide to mention him, then this provides a good way to do so in a respectful way that doesn’t reveal any personal information.

Sample: About Winter Night Shelter MK

About Winter Night Shelter Milton Keynes

The Winter Night Shelter in Milton Keynes provides free, overnight accommodation to homeless people who would otherwise be sleeping rough during the coldest winter months.

We’re fundraising for their inspiring new project - “Unity Park Station”, which will provide essential access to many of the expert support services that are currently scattered across the town, providing an accessible, central, first-stop for anyone experiencing, affected by, or at risk of homelessness.

At Rightmove, we all work hard to find our customers a happy home. It’s something we feel makes a big difference in life - a right, rather than a luxury. It’s hard to imagine what life must be like without any home at all, let alone the perfect one.

We’re proud to call Milton Keynes our home, and we can’t stand by while so many local people go without a roof over their head. Please help us make a difference for those that are in desperate need this year - real change is possible, if we work together.

What is this?

If you’ve chosen to support Winter Night Shelter MK, then your JustGiving fundraising page will need to provide some basic information about them.

It’s likely that your friends and family will visit your fundraising page, and many of them will have no idea about the great work that they do, that homelessness is a serious problem in our local area, or how it can affect people’s lives.

So it’s important to provide at least a basic overview to inform people that simply aren’t aware.

You won’t need to provide much detail, because by selecting Winter Night Shelter MK as a charity in the signup process, you linked your page to theirs. This means that anyone visiting your page can simply click on the Winter Night Shelter MK logo to delve deeper and find out more about them.

Sample: About On The Move

What is On The Move?

At On The Move, we’re a big family of movers and shakers - ordinary people that are determined to make a difference, no-matter the odds.

I’m part of a dedicated team of over 100 runners that are all busy pounding the pavements and raising money in preparation for the 6th May 2019, where we’ll all be at the Milton Keynes Marathon and Half Marathon. We’re really excited to be taking part in it, and we’re using the opportunity to make a real impact in the lives of people that desperate need our support.

Wwe’re hoping that by coming together as a collective, we can make a genuine difference and build a movement for social good that lasts well into the future.

What is this?

Whichever cause you’re supporting, it’s important that you let people know you’re running and fundraising as part of our team at On The Move.

It’ll help to raise your profile by showing that your activity is part of a wider movement, and it’ll help to cross-promote the work of our other movers and shakers too.

Remember – you’re doing great work by taking part in On The Move, but we’re much stronger together – as part of a team, and that means helping eachother out by sharing our success. If your campaign is successful, hopefully it’ll give others a boost too.

How to use it

It’s up to you to decide where you think it’s best to fit this description in. But if you’re stuck, try including it somewhere near the end – after you’ve stated your reasons for fundraising, and your chosen cause.

If you feel this copy is too long, you can go ahead and cut it back as much as you like. But we think it’s important to include at least something.

Most importantly, we ask that you include a link to the On The Move website. We’ve added it right at the end so people can find out more or maybe get involved themselves next year.

You’re welcome to use it as-is, by copy and pasting the snippet onto your page. However, you might want to make it your own by rephrasing a few sentences and adding your own flavour to make it feel more personal to your campaign.
